‘I wanted justice for the murder of my Dalit husband’

In a BBC Outlook podcast, Kausalya Shankar talks about what motivated her to testify against her parents for the murder of her husband Shankar who hailed from the Dalit community

In March 2016, Kausalya Shankar and her husband, Shankar, were attacked by knife-wielding men in broad daylight in Tamil Nadu’s Udumalpet in Tirupur district. While Kausalya was injured and survived, her husband died on the way to the hospital. The couple was attacked because Kausalya’s parents disapproved of her marriage to a man from the Dalit community. Months later, Kausalya testified against her parents in court. Listen to her story in her own words on the BBC Outlook podcast.
